“Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me” Psalm 119: 49-50
Your expectations must be rooted in the word of God. It is fool hardy to make any human the basis of your expectation as people will invariably disappoint you if you do not let God take centre place. The bible says, “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” Proverbs 23:18 Even when you are walking through the valley of shadow of death, God has promised that you will fear no evil, for He is with you, His rod and His staff they will comfort you. Which means as you tread through the valley of shadow of death, there is a word that you are meditating upon that equips you with the fact that no evil will happen to you; even as you are going through the crisis, when God shows you a word in scripture, it constantly reassures you that nothing is going to go wrong, confirming to you by opening your eyes to the good that will come of the situation. “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”Psalm 23:5When God manifests Himself over your situation in this regard, you pray with assurance knowing that in nothing will you waver for you abide in Christ as your source and His words abide in you.
This is what Elijah did when he prayed the prayer of faith to end the famine in Israel and bring rain; the prayer of faith is when you go into the inner sanctuary; the place of worship to God, believing you know the exact outcome of the circumstance. That is to say ‘Let your will be done on earth as it is done in heaven’ God has revealed His will to you as a person, when He shows you those scriptures. It is important to mention that, God would not have had the Bible written if He had no intent of speaking through it. The Bible is the inspiration of the Almighty Father. I have not seen anybody in all of my Christian life ( This should be a warning people who are into hearing voices) that has ever made anything of their Christian faith . I have seen people go around saying they heard a voice without any backing of scriptures, they reached for those things they so desire and never got it. If you do hear a voice from heaven it is expedient that you ask God to show you scriptures to back up what you have heard. God certainly would indulge you so you can have something to base your faith and meditate on. To further illustrate on the example of Elijah, he put himself in a certain posture and started praying. There was something he was doing. He was not observing the signs, rather he asked his servant to go look, His servant returned saying ‘I see nothing’ Elijah without fretting resumed his initial posture. This is the posture that you take on when you are praying to birth something new into your sphere. This posture is one that cannot be influenced by the outward or prevailing circumstances, as you remain focused on the truth you have been shown in the word of God.
In this instance, with the scripture that you have been shown, you sit with it, read it then meditate by constantly muttering to yourself, until you have just one word which will be the connection between your mouth and heart. That will the only thing that is ongoing. You can be distracted when you are reading but you cannot be distracted when you are meditating because meditation starts first by muttering, the word. The Bible says “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;”Romans 10:8 the NIV says “ But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:” So if I tell you to start counting to 100 in your mind and you are counting and I say ‘say your name’, the counting stops because when you open your mouth to say something, you break the flow of your thoughts. When you open your mouth and you are saying the word of God, what you are thinking has to be what you are saying and this is why meditation starts with muttering. It can be likened to when you administer a medicine to your body, you put the medicine in your mouth and it goes into your body. The word is sharper than any two edged sword. David said in Psalm 119: 50 “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me….” Same as Jonah who said in Jonah 2:8 “They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.”
In Conclusion, when you are faced with a challenge in any situation, the best thing is to ask of God’s opinion concerning the situation. See from the bible in clear terms, being the more sure word of prophecy as a against wishful thinking or ideas that subjects you to being tossed back and forth by people. you get the word sit with it and practice until light breaks.
