And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death: Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savory meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. And Rebecca heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. And Rebecca spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,… And she gave the savory meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob. And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son? And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first born; I have done according as thou bidest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.(Gen 27vs1:6, 17:19)inconvenience

According to the above scripture Isaac’s intention was to bless Esau but he ended up being deceived by Jacob who eventually got his elder brother’s blessing. Isaac made the pronouncement upon Jacob because he felt that it was Esau that was before him. Though he was deceived, his spirit was stirred up when he ate the meal and so he still made the pronouncement on Jacob. You must understand that  after the blessing was pronounced on Jacob, there was nothing anyone could do by labour- physical works-  to reverse the effect of the word that have been spoken. This means that Esau could not work himself to the point where he could ever be greater than Jacob. He (Esau) on the other hand could not develop natural skills to the point where he would ever be greater than Jacob because of the blessing. This is to say that the words spoken by Isaac were to regulate the activities of their lives forever.

This shows the power that is contained in spoken words. It also shows the reason why the Jews have much reverence and respect for the Abrahamic covenant.  They understand that once the word is pronounced over your activities you will begin to see supernatural results. This means that everything you do in line with the spoken words will prosper.  The more you work in it the more prosperous you get in the things that you do. The bible says, ‘Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he (Matt 11:11).This means that when the blessing is pronounced on a person, that person whether he engages in little or no activity will become greater than the person who is operating without the blessing. That is why it is important we understand the reason why Isaac wanted his soul to be fed and his spirit stirred up before pronouncing his blessings on his son.  In the book of Joshua chapter 27:9, we are told of Balak who called on Balaam to curse the people of Israel in other to win a battle against them (Israel). These men understood the effect of words spoken against their enemies.  They knew that words spoken purposefully guaranteed their victory. The reverse was however the case because God delivered Israel. It is good to note that these men (Balak and Balaam) respected the place of powerful prophetic utterances over their activities.

As Christians we must get to this place. We should get to the place where we understand the power of utterances and to put them to use in our lives as individuals. The bible says, ‘death and life are in the power of our own tongue … and by our own words we are going to be justified or condemned’. This is the new covenant where God has poured forth his spirit into the hearts of every man. Therefore, we must realise that we all have that prophetic power  to impact and influence our natural activities with the grace of God.  As we declare  words with stirred spirits and fed souls, we will begin to see these   multiplying effect in our lives.
